M14 magazine question

have a USGI m14 magazine still in the silver wrap inside the brown paper..is there any way to tell by the printing on the paper who the manufacturer was?..has may 1962 red stamped date and jan 63 date stamped on the spec part of the package

    There's more markings than what you posted? Please get them back to us. The mfr's code may be buried somewhere in the "spec part". Best, Joe

    I know that you probably don't want to take it out of the wrapper but the markings stamped on the magazine itself will positively identify the manufacturer.

    Joe...on the nomenclature part of the wrapper is..1005-628-9048-B053..next line..MAGAZINE ASSEMBLY FOR RIFLE 7.62MM,M14..next line..1EA..A-1/63..next line..DA-19-020-AMC-5764(W)..then LOT NO: ...don't know if you can make anything from that

    Nothing definite. Focusing on the red part of the code-string perhaps Borg-Warner, or Winchester. I'll have to defer to M/C's assesment on identification, however.

    Can you (are you willing to do this?) please take a razor and slit the wrap where the back of the magazine is (feel for the locking lug on the back), and inform us of the stamping. The locking lug will be on the top of the backside, and the stamp will be approx. 1/3 up from the floorplate.

    You must weigh the merit of identification vs. unmolested packaging. Your call. Best, Joe

    Opinion (based on information thus far attained, and absent any contradictory information)..is that I'm trending towards your magazine as an aftermarket product "dressed up" to appear USGI. See below.

    Below is authentic USGI magazine packaging (this one is for a two magazine pack). Note item in red, below. It shows Olin Mathison (Winchester) as the manufacturer. Note the item in green, below. It's the manufacturer's MILSPEC contract information for the the vapor-proof packaging..nothing to do with the magazine. Will get back to you with any further info as I come across it.     Thanks Joe!...my marking is the 1005-628-9048-B053..which I have found as you say..part of a two pack..but mine says 1EA..and A 1/63...in red is the maker of the wrap..crocker burbank papers inc..mil-B-121B..may 1962...since I have several other usgi M14 mags i'll just leave this one sealed...unless the suspense gets too great[:D]...thanks again for your info!
