Leupold need help identifing

I recently got this Leupold scope on this rifle, and I really have never seen anything like it. it is a fixed 12X, but it has this tube almost coming off the eye piece. It seems to be held on there by some sort of caulking.
At first i thought it might be some sort of extended eye relief, but the only place I can get a sight picture on it is right up against the tube, which doesn't make any sense to me. what is even weirder, is that the cover that screws on to the back of it has a hole in the middle of it, which you can see through almost like your not supposed to take it off....anyone ever seen anything like this?

    I personally have never encountered this set-up but from the description I would surmise that "someone" had this done with the intention of strictly target/bench shooting. Can't quite get my mind around the assumed "advantage" (reason) for the "peep-hole" in the rear cover........

    what is even more unusual is that the field of view that you get is about what I would expect out of a pellet rifle scope. nor is overly clear.

    The numbers on the side look military. Is the rifle a sniper [?]

    No, the rifle is actually a 700 mountain rifle in .270

    I would ask the Leopold support people.

    But I don't believe its something that Leupold did...maybe but kinda doubtful

    In the past there have been countfeit leupold scopes. I would ask Leupold about this one.

    Alright well I called leupold, it is a true leupold scope. He wasn't sure as far as to what the eye piece did.

    However he said that he has encountered them before, he said he believed they are from a company called "raytheon"

    does that give anybody any clues?

    There may have been more to it originally and it might have been set up for night vision. That is a guess based upon the Raytheon lead.
