AR-7 survival 22 clip loader
I have an old AR-7 survival 22 rifle that I'm starting to shoot again. I'm looking for a 22 clip loader that will work for these magizines. Does anyone have any experience with this one? Thanks in advance.

I too have an AR-7, I have never heard of such a beast, that being a mag loader. I have bought some 15 round mags for mine though! 0 -

Armalite never offered such an item and since the magazine holds only 8 rounds such a device would be of limited interest. Since the rifle stows all of it's parts inside it's butt stock and with only enough room for a single magazine there would be nowhere to put a loader. I suppose you could carry a loader of some sort around in your pocket but for a survival gun the loader would take up needed space, space that could be better used to carry more ammo.

Yep. That's true that there would be no room for the mag loader in the original "in the stock" storage of all the essentials. I'm just looking for an after market mag loader that will work on these so I don't get cuts on my thumb. So far, I've tried 3 different 22 mag loaders and they don't fit the opening or are too narrow. I have 3 more coming in the mail to try. I'll let everone know if one of these fit. It may not stow in the buttstock, but longer 15 round magazines are available, and the longer spring may make them easier to load. Worth a shot, if you can find one.
Also, unless I am mistaken the AR-7 mags have no loading "button" on the side/follower. The point of every .22 mag loaders I've seen is to help depress that button, so its not clear to me how one might help in this case.
If loading this is hurting your thumb, I think a simple solution may just be to use a different loading technique. Try inserting the rim of the cartridge at an angle then sliding it down and backward, being mindful of where you rub your thumb.
If there are sharp edges that are gouging your thumb, you *MAY* be able to fix the problem by softening the offending points/edges with a dremel or file. But I would only try this on a SPARE magazine, and CAREFULLY, since AR-7s have a reputation of being picky, and altering the magazine lip profile might compromise reliability in feeding.0 -
I can not remember where I saw it so this post is kinda pointless. There is a mag loader that slips over your finger and has a "stud" with a channel cut in the end of it. You line the channel up on the round in the mag, then push down and drop the next round in.
They were like $3, but I dont remember where I saw them [:I] cause I had no interest in them but might fit your bill.0 -

Your note made me think I saw them also. I found them in The Sportsmans Guide item no. WX2-76465 for about 10 bucks for 6 different sizes. The 22 size works perfectly with a little practice.
I also want to say I have a 15 round banana style clip for it. Yes it doesn't store in it but is nice to have a few more shots when plinking.

Advantage Arms, ( .22 Cal conversion units for Glocks ) makes a plastic loader for their .22 magazines. Works great, as their magazines don't have a loading "button" on the follower. If all the other loaders you have tried haven't worked, what have you to lose, try one of AA's. 0
