8mm ammo I.D.

A friend of mine was shooting his FN-49,in excellant condition,and had several rounds,4 of 60, stick in the chamber. Required a hard rap on bolt handle to extract spent brass. 2 of 60 had split necks,length wise. 1 had a pierced primer. Cratered primers on approximatly 25% of the 60 rounds fired. I am familiar with the gas regulator and do not believe this was the problem.
My question is about the ammunition, who made it and does anyone here have experience or knowledge of its performance? Corrosive?,it is Berdan primed.
Head stamp on brass- 7.9 / F.S / 1950 / T O C (O in TOC has short vertical line thru top, bomb symbol?)

    Turkish, corrosive, it cracks necks sometimes.

    It is loaded to the very top end of the capabilities of the cartridge(heigh pressure). 154 grain bullet at 2900-3000 FPS. I wouldn't use it in a Semi-auto myself.

    Generally it is pretty decent stuff, always goes bang, but it is 60 years old.

    Thank you for the confirmation. I suggested to my friend that the ammo was the problem but he wanted to finish the bandolier of 60. He was not sure that the rifle was the problem. I offered to buy the problem and help him out. I do not believe his response is physically possible. Thanks again

    Welcome to the Gunbroker Forums!

    Unfortunately, ammunition, like so many other commodities, hasn't been manufactured with absolute uniformity especially when it comes from so many different sources. 8mm Mauser, 7mm Mauser, 7.62 NATO, 5.56 NATO and many others can show significant variation in pressure and velocity depending on when and where it was manufactured.

    I've thought the very same thing on numerous occasions with the same suggestion from others. [;)]

    fwiw, take a magnifier, look HARD at that TOC. The O is actually a star over a crescent. Turk, corrosive, hot, cheap.
