Colt DA 38 catalin
I recently acquired this pistol, and am really not sure of its value, I believe the grips are what they call catalin. any input would be appreciated.

Because of the stop slots on the cylinder it looks like one of the models of the "New Army and Navy Revolver". They were made from the 1890's until the early 1900's.
Should have a serial number on the butt and patent markings on the barrel.
Likely to be chambered for .38 Long Colt, not .38 Special.
Old timer, over 100 years old, no original finish to speak of left.
Few of the modern gunsmiths are familiar with the lockwork of the old Colt revolvers. To get one to fix it might be a real bear.
Doesn't appear to have much collector demand/value, in the condition it's in.
Not sure about the grips, might be bone? Very unlikely to be factory original.0 -
The yellow grips with finger grooves are similar to the Catalin (early fake ivory) grips shown in gunzine articles about John Wayne's prop guns. 0
