Kimber Pro Carry 1911 in 9mm question

I just picked up a Kimber Pro Carry in 9mm and its in real nice shape, except it looks like the previous owner put an old, worn, slide stop in the pistol before trading it in. Is there any difference between a 45 caliber slide stop and a 9mm slide stop? I called Kimber but just got a voice mail.

    I'm going to do a little guess work here.

    From the point of view that when MANUALLY activated will the 9mm slide stop hold the slide - no problem, it should work fine. But, since the 9mm magazine is different than the 45 ACP magazine and the magazine activates the slide stop on the last round - and the 1911 is designed around the 45 ACP, not the 9 mm - you may find that the 9mm mag follower doesn't properly engage & push up the slide lock on the last shot.

    If you remove the slide from the gun, then reinsert the slide lock and pop in an empty mag you'll see the relationship between the mag, mag follower and slide release.

    I think Ed Brown or Wilson sell caliber specific slide locks for the 45 ACP and the 38 Super for just that reason. I would expect the 38 Super one would work fine in a 9mm.

    I would check the gun for function with all the magazines - if the magazines cause the slide stop to properly function on the last round (hold open) then I would say you're fine.

    Dfletcher, you were correct, I looked at Brownells and they list a slide stop for 38 Super/9MM. Different than a 45 slide stop. Thanks for the info! Just placed the order on Brownells new, improved websight!
