Unknown Side x Side Shotgun
Hello all,
I have a antique shotgun in a 16 gauge side by side. Gun has two triggers and hammers. Very nice scroll work on reciever, a metal butt pad, also looks like a walnut stock and forehand. There isn't any mfg stamp just possibly a few makers marks someone here may help me out with. This gun has serial number 14443 stamped and matching on the reciever, under the barrels, and on the forearm. The letters AM 4 are also stamped next to the serial numbers, a * with AC or AO/AG not sure which is under the * symbol. Also the cymbol that resembels a flag pole with a stepped base appears on the reciever.Any info would be greatly appriciated.Pictures are avalible but I can't seem to post them here. Thank you.

These are proof marks used in Belgium. The letters under the star represent the inspector who proof tested the shotgun. The flag pole with stepped base is the Tower Proof Mark, used at the Liege Belgium proof facility.
Belgian hammer shotguns with Damascus barrels were imported and sold in great quantity in the U.S. during the latter part of the 19th Century and the early years of the 20th Century.0 -
