Python fails to open

What would make an almost new Colt Python cylinder latch fail to unlock cylinder after firing?

    Make sure the ejector rod is screwed in to the cylinder, tightly.

    You didn't have a squib load, did you...make sure there is no bullet between the cylinder face and the forcing cone.

    On a S&W I would definitely think the ejector rod had worked loose and is sticking up front.

    This is less common on a Colt, but it does happen. Carefully turn the tiny little curled end of the ejector rod to screw the rod back into the cylinder. It won't turn easily, unfortunately... but one-half of a turn should be enough to free the cylinder, if this is the problem.

    Firing a over powered round could cause this problem. I rotated the cylinder as much as I could, pushing the release and pulling back on the hammer and it came open after jacking around with it for a while.

    Is it still loaded?
    With live rounds?
    Treat it as you would a Rossi, and pull the screws out of the sideplate, remove the trigger assembly and springs, then rap it sharply on the drivers' side with a padded mallet. Now try the cylinder release.

    Just want to confirm the basics.
    To open a Colt DA revolver cylinder, you need to pull back on the latch vs. pushing on the latch like a S&W revolver.
    Hammer needs to be lowered (un-cocked) in order to open the cylinder.

    Can you use something non marring (shave a plastic Bic pen down to a point) to pry back the ejector rod into to the cylinder rod while pulling back on the cylinder latch?

    Sounds to me like an unscrewed ejector rod.
