Sig P238??

I looked at a sig p238 today and I thought it was a colt mustang!
it seems too similar to be just a coincidence and the guy that owns it says that some of the internals are actually interchangeable with with the mustang.
if this is true, did sig buy out the rights from colt? did the patent design expire and anyone can produce it?
I always thought colt made a huge mistake when they stopped making the mustang.
what's the skinny on this sig?

    They are too similar to be an accident, but nobody is talking about the details. Is there a Secret Agreement or did Sig Sauer reverse engineer a Mustang? I doubt there is or was anything patented, the gun is based on Colt and Star designs from long ago.

    I have read that the magazines interchange.
    The P238 is getting in the market at prices about 60% of a well preserved Colt.

    Supposedly SIG bought the old Mustang tooling from Colt (which isn't making them anymore).

    The SIG changed the external design a bit to make the slide look more like the other Sig pistols.

    But basically these are the same as the Mustangs. Given the huge growing popularity of mini-guns in .380 like the Kel-Tec and Ruger LCP, I think this one should be a hit.

    But at $500+ and $45 for a mag, the price is almost double and almost triple respectively, that of the LCP and its mag.

    My point being that, while it may be a hit, it will likely not be a hit with the same buyers making the Kel-Tec and LCP hits.

    But, it is a sig... Much like a P95 or whatever from Ruger is about half of a 226, 228, etc.

    Yes, but I can hit about twice as well with my Colt .380, too.

    I had one of the small alloy framed Colt .380's, years ago. Quit carrying it as a CCW because it's single action mechanism. No way was I going to carry it cocked with just the safety engaged in a pocket holster.

    Went to the KelTec P 11, with it's double action mechanism.

    SIG should have made a knock-off of the double action .380 that Colt made, in the late 90's for a short time. I believe they called it the Pony?

    Yep, it was the pony.
    both the mustang and the pony (as well as the officers 380) were being worked on by smiths and others for concealed carry. at one time, there was so much demand for action jobs and smoothing of the edges that there was a considerable wait to get the work done.
    only a couple outfits offer that kind of work now and the "package" starts at $300.
    I still think colt screwed up (again) when they discontinued these guns.
    but that sig is gonna be a big seller, i think.
    i'm just not too crazy about the grips.
