Nagant Pistol Ammo

I have an unopened Russian crate of Nagant Pistol Ammo.

That means 2 unopened tins with several boxes each.

What I would like to know is how many of those 40 round boxes are in each tin, and what is the value of this unopened crate?

    Original Russian Nagant revolver ammo is actually quite scarce.

    I don't know how many boxes are in each spam can, but can probably estimate by visually dividing the volume of the can by the volume of the boxes.

    You might get as much as $20 per 40 round box.

    Edit: I'm just guesstimating here, but you may have as many as 10+ boxes per tin, meaning your crate could be worth around $400.

    I have no idea what original Nagant pistol ammo goes for,but I am curious as to whether or not it's corrosive.

    I'm with Mr. Christian.

    If you're putting up a reserve auction, the market WON'T decide because you're discouraging potential likely buyers from bidding it up to true value.

    This is decades old Russian milsurp ammo. Its corrosive.

    You have 1600 rounds in that crate. Almost all wood crates from ussr
    from that era have a "WT" number on them...that is the amount. go to this pdf file and go to page 128 or so...http://www.dia.mil/publicaffairs/Foia/smcal_vol1.pdf ....bob ps if you get less than
    800 bucks for it, I 'll be amazed !!!

    From my reading on the subject, all of the Russian surplus imported Nagant pistol ammo was corrosive.

    The non-corrosive is the new production Fiocchi and Hot Shot -- but that stuff seems to be imported in just small amounts, so availability is usually low with prices high.

    The last I bought was the Hot Shot (probably around a year ago) for around $25/box (of 50), including the shipping. It was the lowest price I had seen in a long time.

    Agree with the first bit, its 1600 rounds. per the label on the crate.

    Disagree with the second. I don't think anyone is going to pay $0.50 a round for decades old corrosive Russian milsurp Nagant ammo when modern production non-corrosive reloadable boxer-primed is available for $0.46 per round.

    Also, figure ordinary .38 special ammo is still available at under $0.40 per round on the auction site.

    So I say "less".

    I still say it is worth about $800. First I read someone's post here
    that "You might get as much as $20 per 40 round box." And the seller is doing a great injustice to the sale by stating 980 rounds when he is selling 1600 !!!Second I routinely pay $35 to $50 per box of fifty for
    .32 S&W ammo if it is old and matches the era for each of 1878 to 1915
    year made guns I collect. Once paid $75 for a 2 piece box of 50 .38S&W,
    because it was made 6 months after a gun in my collection. I can buy
    new .38S&W ammo for $16 a box, but it just doesn't look right displayed
    next to a 1887 top break revolver. And no I won't bid on his ammo....
    I don't have or collect those guns !!!LOL bob
