Cartod are ya here.... or anyone else..pre 64

Look here. we were at the local gun shop today, and he has a beautiful pre 64 model 70 in 220 swift. I would rate it as 90%, and looking at the action, has been shot very little. Well I was in love and want that gun, here is the problem he thinks its worth 2850, and it might be, it is a beautiful original all the way around clean unaltered pre 64 in 220 swift. My question to you is....... is it worth that..........29th edition of blue book has them 1800 in 100%. But you are up on the pre 64s so what do ya think, auction prices and what stuff is selling 4 today. Very sorry I dont have pics but take it for what I told ya and give me your best guess, and its okay to say he is smoking crack because thats what I thought! but yet I still dont know....... its a beautiful gun Id love to own it[:D], yet I dont think theres no way Id ever get money back out of it at that price[:(]

    Unless it has bells and whistles, or just Belles you have not mentioned, I would say he is overly optimistic.

    No bells or whistles, Just a damn clean pre 64 model 70 in 220 swift.



    Edit everything is there. Sling swivels, front sight hood,steel butt plate, rear folding sight. This is just a standard rifle,Does not appear to have been refinished ever as the checkering is still crisp. Like I say just super clean kind of like a closet queen. Very sorry about the pics, I will try to get back over there and get some If he will let me take some, Thanks again for any insight

    Sounds overpriced to me also! Just how "Pre 64" is it? Is it a Varmit Rifle, Target Model, Super Grade, or Standard Rifle? It doesn't appear that the Featherweight or Carbine was chambered for 220 Swift?

    I collect 1952 issue pre-64 model 70's. Have five out of the eight produced that year. The 220 Swift eludes me for price reasons as does the 22 Hornet and 375 H&H. The first one I had money down on was $1200 about 10 years ago. Have seen them go from there to well above $3000. Without pics we are shootin in the dark.
    Does it have original sling swivels,front sight hood,rear site,metal butt plate? Stock been refinished,checkering strong, dents and dings? $2850 probably is crack induced. $1850 would be a steal. Best of luck...

    Just for comparison. . .came across a pre-64 Model 70 Super Grade in 257 Roberts at a local gun shop last week priced at $2500. I didn't study it much but it appeared to be all original and in 90 to 95% condition.

    Would you expand on that? Just that few made in the year? Were they on strike?

    Even a super grade would have to be awful damn nice for $2800.

    Well when ya put it like that.......... thanks cartod, this gun is close but not near that nice, I supposoe I may try to talk him down but probably wont buy it[^]
