these browning shotguns
I just bought two browning shotguns they are older and i know they are a5's and one of them is a 68g then the serial number and i know that it means that it was made in 1968 and it also says light 12 but the other one doesnt have light 12 AND it doesnt have any numbers before the serial number all it has is an M then the serial number but i have no idea what year it was made in or anything i am trying to figure out more info on them and also their value plz help me out if you can it would be great thanks

would it be better if i redid the stocks and re blued it but i have heard the value would go down but the reason i bought these guns bc the guy said he would take 400 for both of them and i figured that they were browning and i know that they are worth money and i shoot trap and skeet for ut martin on their team and i shoot an older citori and love it so i know they are great guns but do you think i got a good deal 0 -

I believe your "M" s/n A-5 is a Standard 12 ga made in 1957 or 1958.
If the shotguns are sound you made a very nice buy. Your considerations of reblue and stock refinish are natural. Purists tend to discourage this on especially fine pieces - if you believe you have something special I would advise you to keep the cleaning down to lightly oiling the steel and waxing the wood. If they are shooters, bluing and refinishing can improve their eye appeal - go easy on the buffing and exercise caution with disassembly - the A-5 is a much more complcated machine than a Remington 1148 of similar vintage, for example.
