I am looking for some advice on purchasing a Remington Rand 1911a1. I see there are several on the auction side. What is a fair price for these pistols? I realize that condition is directly proportionate to the value, but what is a good starting point? How does arsenal rework affect value? I have never purchased anything like this online and simply want to buy one at a fair price.

    I inherited the nice Rand....
    Could you please help ID it and possible value also. I would say that it is in 95%-97% condition on the bluing. I did as much research as I could but would like a complete opinion of the gun and its worth as I truly have no idea:confused:

    Markings are as follows
    Left Side: FJA - 5 on trigger guard
    Right Side: Upper trigger guard-"V" Lower trigger guard- "T" rear frame- Ordnance department inspectors stamp
    Barrel: SP stamped
    Magazine Stamped "L"
    Serial# 1516836

    I m assuming that it is a 1944 based on the Serial #.

    You would have better savings catching someone walking around at a gunshow. I bought one at a show a few months back for $500. That's CHEAP!

    Hello there were many companies that made 1911a1's during WW II Remington Rand made many. of them Be aware that the hard line collector will want to make sure the slide roll stamp is the correct vintage for the serial number RANGE of the pistol every maker was given a BLOCK of serial numbers . The collector will also want the small parts to be the correct STYLE and maker as well as the markings on the barrel . If all theses things are correct and the original finish it could be worth 2 to 3 times as much as a Parts gun with another makers frame BY SERIAL number range with mis-matched barrel and small parts the was re PARKERIZED but now is near 100 % condition . I suggest you buy or borrow one of Charles Clawson Books on the Military 1911's the small book is $100.00 + or - the Big book goes for as much as $1000.00 and more. [:(!][V] great book but Price is in the out of normal hobby 1911 guys price range. If you just want a shooter get just that a shooter. "PRAISE THE HARD-BALL GUN"

    A really nice (98-99%) original finish R-R will cost in the $1,800 range. An arsenal refinished gun will sell for half that. An R-R slide on a Rock Island frame will sell for < $500. As Perry Shooter says, you have to know what you are looking at.

    I've never dealt with the guy, but he seems to have a lot of nice .45's that are accurately described & clearly photographed. Check out as many of his auctions (current & completed) as you can, & I think you will learn a lot.
