3 inch 50 caliber

I know it is not a normal gun, But i need help... I have a 3 inch 50 caliber dummy round that I am refinishing or trying to anyway... I am doing it for a vet i work with who used to man the 3 inch 50 caliber on a navy ship... I need info on said round, pics, parts, where to find stuff for said round, or where to find a real round that is no longer able to fire...

Please Advise

    Best place to start would be the forums at www.cartridgecollector.org Also check out their links off the main page.

    Another, but less likely source would be Tony Williams website. Tony is more into airgraft guns and artillary rounds, but he might have some information that would be of usage to you.

    The photo is of me at a cartridge collectors show 2 years ago, in front of one of the displays, all naval rounds.

    Thanks So Far Guys, one more question how did you get the pic on there I tried to put a pic of the dummy round on there but i could not figure it out

    You need to first open an account at one of the photo hosting sites ( www.photobucket.com is one a lot of guys use, and it's free).
    Than you "upload" your photo from your computer to their server
    Finaly you copy and paste the "img" link from your PB picture to the post your making.
    If you "quote" my (or any other photo post) you will be able to see the "web address" (URL) of that picture

    Nice looking piece. I'm not deep enough into the naval rounds to say for certanity, but from what I have seen it looks fairly complete and may only need some point on the projectle.
    The guys over at the cartridge collectors site include a couple navy types that used those guns, and they would be the best ones to advise you on paint colors and other details I'm not familier with.

    Your shell looks okay metalwise. The wood should be darker and have the nomenclature stenciled on it. I've got one at work and will bring home the exact wording tomorrow if you're interested.
