Colt 1917 New Service ?
A friend has one that Iam thinking of doing some trading with.It is in great condition and lock up is good.It is in 45 colt instead of 45acp,5 1/2 barrel.I looked on the completed auction side and found nothing of a 45 colt.Can anyone give me any info on these.Thanks

A 1917 Colt was built on the New Service frame in .45 ACP for the Army.
The regular commercial "civilian" Colt New Service was available in many calibers, .45 Colt included.
I am sure there have been 1917s converted to .45 Colt, so be sure what you are looking at. Pictures and a full description would help somebody here tell you what the gun really is.0 -
I have both a 1917 Colt and a Colt New Service in 45 Colt. The give away would be to look on the butt to see if it has the military number on it. A 45 Colt New Service does not have that number. Both will have swivels on the butt. 0 -
If you give the first 3 numbers of the serial # I can probably give you the "born on" date. 0
