1894 Winchester Model? Value?

I'm looking for a little help on what this gun may be, worth and condition you think its in. My Dad said it was special ordered new by my Grandpa and has been keep in the family. I also would like to know what kind of wood the stock is. All the options don't seem to add up to any models that I find in gun books.

    Back in those days, long gone to most of us, but well remembered by Bert, custom orders were not uncommon, so guns could be had pretty much as the buyer wanted and could afford. Looks like a beaut!

    What you have is a great conditioned carbine with what appears to be upgraded burl walnut, most commonly refferred to as 3x wood by Winchester collectors. It appears to be in at least 90% condition and if all original, (it apprears to be), could be worth about 4k or more. The serial number per the most popular publications places it's date of manufacture to about 1911. These referance books are proven to have gaping errors and the only sure way to determine it's actual manufacture date is thru a research request at the Buffalo Bill Museum in Cody, WO, thought I'm afraid that the records for most Winchester's made after 1908 have been lost.

    Bert is the resident expert and I'm sure when he comes out of the catacombs of the museums records dept. to get some freah air he'll provide you with much more accurate info.

    In the meantime be aware that you have a very valuable Winchester that's been well taken care of, a family heirloom that should not be sold off. Thanks for sharing the pics.

    Hello splashgtp,

    Youe have a very nice special order Model 1894 Saddle Ring Carbine (SRC)[^].

    The serial number tells me that it was manufactured in early December of the year 1912.

    It has three (3) special order features; (1) Pistol grip, (2) deluxe 2X walnut stocks, and (3) a Rifle (cresent) butt.

    Based on what I have observed in very recent history (both gun shows in Cody), your special order SRC is worth about $3500. If you would like to discuss the gun further, you can contact me at Win1885@msn.com

    be careful how you clean that gun ! nothing abrasive just a light oil and even more careful when you might clean the bore
