Question about old Stevens side by side 12 gauge.

I am just trying to determine the model and manufacture date on a shotgun that was passed on to me by my grandpa. One side of the gun says J. Stevens Arms Co. Chicopee Falls, Mass. USA Patented April 20th, 1915. The other side says Stevens and has what appears to be a duck. Those are the only markings I can see on the gun, other than the 12 gauge stamp. Does anyone have any knowledge on this gun, I have searched the internet and can't really find any definitave answers. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    No replies yet... Anyone know if a Ruger P345 .45 would be worth giving this gun up for ? I have a friend interested in trading me for it but I do not want to give it up before I know exactly what I have.

    Cannot give you an exact dollar worth with no pictures. You may try removing the forearm and barrels- many are marked on the water table. A Stevens 311 in 12 seems to sell for $200-400, depending on condition.

    I own a model 311. Bought it in the early 80s and think I paid 225.00 for it. Nice gun bought not worth a lot. Not sure about an older one like yours.

    Pictures Pictures Pictures are needed. Stevens made many shotguns over the years. The guns they made were affordable,reliable, and lasted forever.

    The only additional marking I found once I broke it down was(H 706 01) stamped on the bottom of the barrel and on the water table. Is this a serial # ? If so is there any way to track it ? I will try and follow the directions to add the pics, although I am new to this and cannot promise anything. Thanks in advance for any help.

    What I really wanted to know was the manufacture date and model. Is there anyway to figure that out with the info I have ? As far as getting rid of it, that probably won't happen. Although this is just one of many guns my grandfather has given me, and one of several shotguns. The friend that wants the shotgun was pretty close to my grandfather as well.

    An educated guess would be sometime after 1900 up to the 1940's at the latest.
