Letter E codes a Lyman tang sight for Marlin 1889 or 1894 (original.)
I don't know about the one-holer.

It looks like the tang may have been broken off .
It appears to be a very old original style.

My first impression is that it is not a factory made sight, other than maybe the disc, and I don't have my books availble to check any further.

EDIT: There does seem to be some letters there Joe, but my eyes are old too. nyforester?

Are my old eyes playing tricks on me? Look at the back of the elevator. On the "C" clamp. Isn't there a stamped impression of some sort on the top? Can you make it out? (Perhaps with a light shining on it at a shallow angle?). Best I could do. Joe
