s&w model 60

My 4'11" wife wants this pistol to use for home defense. Would this make a good first pistol for her? She tried several but this one was the one she felt comfortable with.......Any comments would be appreciated. I know little about pistols and getting my wife trained on a pistol is part of my pre-deployment plan.....Joe

    I have a older model 60 thats fully engraved. serial has 4 numbers and a X...no dashes.. like 6200x....its 38 special. I'm trying to fine the age...anyone help ??

    Model 60 was first stainless steel gun made, came out 1965. Actual year of mfg. requires serial no.

    We need to see photos of the bottom of the grip, the part of the frame exposed when you open the cylinder, & the box end label.

    Right. I don't think you are looking at the serial no. Should be 401***- until 1969 then should have "R" prefix.

    I was looking on the frame where the cyl opens . underneath the grip.it's R209xxx

    That serial no. range was 1977-1978.
