British Bull Dog Revolver

A friend of mine has an old revolver. There is not much in markings, serial numbers etc... However on the top of the barrel there is British on one side and Bull Dog on the other which is stamped. The Caliber appears like it might be a 44 just looking at the bore, but again no indication on the gun of what it is. Does anyone have information about this gun, what it might be worth, etc...

  Since no other marks are immediately evident, it's likely one of a multitude made by cottage-industry craftsmen ca 1880 to early 1900s. Open the loading gate on right side at rear of cylinder and rotate the cylinder: Look for the letters ELG enclosed in a circle between chambers, which is the Liege, Belgium proofmark. If there's a crown atop the circle, it was made after 1892, if not before 1893. Caliber is probably .44 Webley, not loaded in USA since 1930s.

  It would probably sell in the $50-75 range. Of course, that's a SWAG.

  It sounds like a British Bulldog revolver and there must have been thousands sold in this country at the turn of the century. I have one and it isn't of very good quality. I know some were made by Webley and some in Belgium. They are not worth much.
  
  The caliber is 44 Bull Dog which is now obsolete of course. It had something like a 460 fps velocity and 80 ft-lbs of energy. It was loaded in both blackpowder and smokeless variations.
