Need solution for Hesse FAL problem
I bought a Hesse FAL in .308 which failed to eject the spent cases. I cleaned the chamber and rifle then I ran a straight piece of piano wire spring stock through the gas port in the barrel which helped with it almost ejecting the next case. I have the gas adjusting ring in the closed position and have the selector set on the auto setting. Any ideas? I was using factory ammunition... Do these rifles require a military loading?... Well, its a Hesse. That could be it.
Failing that, is your gas adjusted properly? Process depends on if it is metric or inch pattern... does the action lock open on an empty mag? if so, it is metric.
To adjust for metric, load one round in mag, charge gun, fire. If it does not lock open, increase gas by 2 clicks. Repeat until it locks open on empty mag, then give it one more click to be sure.
To adjust for inch, start with 2 rounds in mag. Fire, if cycles properly reduce gas by 2 clicks and repeat. When it stops cycling, increase gas by 2 clicks again.
Shorter barrel will need a larger gas port. Also, could be bolt/carrier is dragging. Is it lubed properly?
Finally, the problem could be because it is a Hesse.

Hello iwannausername I have read on another forum and they share your opinion that these rifles are junk. I turned the gas release adjusting ring all the way closed to the front and that was when it almost ejected the empty. It is lubed ........ The rifle has a bolt release in front of the trigger but I have to push it up manually. The rifle has a 21" barrel. 0 -
With full gas if it won't eject and cycle properly, a wider gas port may do it...
Does it cycle ok without rough spots manually? If so, then opening the gas port is relatively easy, and would be the first thing to do, and may fix it for you.0 -
