Does anyone know the quality of A1 optic scopes? They claim to have been making scopes for the military and are now starting offer there products to the pucblic. I have recently purchase a 300wsm model 70 in SS. I want to instal a 2.5 to 10 power scope with 50mm objective lens or a 3 to 12 power scope with 50mm objective lens. Should I also be considering AOE, range finder, etc.?

    BSA
    BARSKA
    LEAPERS
    NIKKO STIRLING
    YUKON

    Im looking to get me a scope on my new rifle.

    Welcome to the forum. Hopefully someone will be along shortly with some firsthand knowledge of the Bruntons. Looking at their web page I'd say that their high end models "should" be good for what you pay for them; the low ends are, well, low end.
    Personally I'd stick with the Leopolds and Burris; known quantities with soldid track records of good service.

    Brunton is a very well known name in quality compasses. A lot of times for marketing purposes, companies will use their name on manufactured products made by others. Some folks will assume that the quality for Brunton scopes will be the same as their compasses. Many times this isn't the case at all. Years ago I bought some hi-cap magazines sold under the well known Millet name, they were total useless crap.

    Brunton has indeed been a company selling high quality products for professional use in outdoor work. They have expanded their product line. All I have been able to determine about their scopes is that they are Pacific Rim, i.e. made somewhere in Asia.

    I also have never tried their scopes. But, depending on what you would like to use one on would be useful info. Low recoil situations are usually not a problem with scopes of iffy qualities. The reason I and many others stay with Leupold and Burris is because they are solid scopes and they back up their products so well. But on something like a rimfire or .223 the recoil, which usually kills scopes, isn't so much the issue and scopes last much longer and aren't so much of a problem. I don't think I'd try one on a 300winmag and book an expensive elk hunt.....

    I bought one last year and am just now trying it (on a .50/90 sharps m-1885 winchester repro). It has worked well so far.
