Colt .45

Anyone know the value of a Colt .45 gov model, Series '70 nickel with Pachmayr grips? Condition is very good.

    I'm looking for info, on a Colt Commander Lightweight Series 80. I have a chance to buy one N.I.B for a very cheap price. I have a Colt Gold Cup Series 70 and like it. Thanks for the knowledgeable feed back.

    Rumour had it that the "Auto Rim" cartridge was designed for two reasons:
    1. Don't need moon clips
    2. Factory loaded with lead vs. FMJ "ball".

    Good plus:
    The revolver that can accept moon clips (nowadays there are clips that can accept all six rounds) can be reloaded at lightning speed. With practice, as quick as reloading a magazine pistol.
    And, for carry, speedloader pouches can carry at least two times the ammunition load-out, compared to commercial speedloaders available. Best, Joe

    .45 acp with moon or half moon clips.

    Some of the later 1917's did not need half moon clips. If you look in the cylinder chambers and see a "step" about halfway down, you may load and fire without them. You will however need something (pencil?) to punch out the empties. These particular revolvers headspace on the mouth of the case instead of the rim. You can still use .45 Autorim or half-moons too.
