Remington 710??

Is the Remington model 710 a serviceable rifle? Dependable, reasonably accurate and safe?

    Now ya went and done it. The 'ol 710 question. It is the budget model of the 700,with the 700 being very dependable,ect. The 710 is either loved or hated. I personally have two, a 270, and a 300 win mag. Both perform well and have been there when I needed them. Rem did have a recall on some 710's that a batch of a aprx 3 month run had bad safety detent spring. You can run the 710 serial number on Rem's website to see if your gun was a affected one. Mine were not. The 710's work for me. Hope this helps.

    The Remington M710 is currently discontinued and has been replaced by the M770 for some good reasons. There was a problem with a couple of small parts breaking along with multiple failures of the trigger guard reported but handled by Remington under warranty. The replacement model is supposed to be better but I haven't had the time to borrow one to wring it out.

    This rifle is basically in the category of disposable firearms. If it breaks, it's too expensive to fix or can't be fixed. If you want to rebarrel it, you can't because the barrel is pressed in. So if you intend to shoot 3 or 4 shots a year and use one shot for your deer, you the exact market that Remington was aiming for. Obviously this is a slight exaggeration but it is not a standard duty rifle that can stand up to the rigors of weekly shooting, transportation to and from wilderness hunting lands or any abuse that lack of care will visit upon it. It's cheap for a reason, it's made to be cheap and appeal to those folks that don't want to invest in a better rifle.

    I would leave these rifles alone and look for a better quality rifle that's used and try to stay withing your budget.

    Thank you both, I want something for a couple hundred rounds a year, no more. Think I'll steer clear.
