US Springfield 30-06 Value

I purchased this rifle about 15 years ago and I am wondering what the approx value would be, it has a Redfield 2-7x scope. I appreciate your time and help, the gun and stock is in pretty good shape by my standards. From what I can tell the trigger is custom. I am getting ready to order a customer muzzleloader so I might have to sell this gun.

    I have 3 of these, so I often guestimate values. Plus: Nice wood, jeweled bolt, negs ... pure military is what collectors want, young guys want fancy magnums.

    I'd say $450-500.

    As much as I hate seeing a Springfield sporterized, they did a good job on that one.

    Most of the sporterized Springfields I have seen in the last few years have sold in the $200-300 range. Folks just see these as inexpensive deer rifles.

    Guys always jump on me & say, "A nice one will sell for LOTS more", but I haven't seen it. PLEASE, prove me wrong & find a sales listing that supports a higher price.

    I had no idea what kinda of range to expect - although I did some research on closed auctions yesterday evening and one sporterized Springfield similar to this did go for $500 or $550. There were all different levels of sporterization, so it is hard to say - like always I have to find the right buyer.

    I find it hard to believe that the rifle could be fairly evaluated with so little information. What is the serial number? High or Low? What is the barrel condition? Is it glass bedded? Just because it has a trigger shoe does not mean it has a custom trigger. Unless it has a famous gunsmith's name on it, it is just a simple run of the mill sporting rifle. These usually go begging for $400 and do not sell.

    In the condition that rifle is in I would certainly try and shop it for $550 and not take less than $400. The big thing with both Mauser and Springfield customs is "who did the work?" A no name that did a really nice job isn't going to bring as much as an average Paul Jaeger or Keith Stegall customized mil-surp. Even though it may be a really nice job. A lot of those unfortunately, fall into the 'wayside' category. A lot of them are gems waiting to be picked up again and used.

    I hope you get what you're looking for out of it. If not, hang on to it for more deer hunting memories.

    Hey.... I knew Keith Stegall. I recently looked at 2 of his rifles in somebody's basement. I took him on his last bird hunting trip before he died. Up until January I kept a web photo of him on the Gunnison MSN Groups site.

    To my knowledge, he did Mausers, not USGI 1903's.

    I had a fairly nice sporter with a Lyman Alaskan scope on it, paid $200 for it and 10 boxes of ammo. Sold it for $225 without the ammo, and the guy that bought it only wanted the scope.

    The number is 1280875. There is a name on the scope but I believe that was the previous owners name, Hadley is the last name.
