Hi, Does anyone know if you could special order a different front bead sight for the Winchester model 97 riot shotgun.?? I have seen a different sight on one instead of the little bead sight that is standard and now I have seen also another different bead sight on one where the gun is 100% Winchester riot gun (no cut down) !! 97% blue ,original stock serial 948,8XX E take down model..!! Please anyone out there know . Also I have heard that this gun was made around 1943 instead of what the bluebook says ? This is the commercial riot gun not the trench gun , no police markings just standard Winchester markings Thanx

  Throughout the 60-year production run of the Model 1897/97, Winchester used different style front beads for the Riot Gun. When exactly the changes were made is unknown to me. Yes, it is possible that a different type bead sight could have been special ordered (but not very likely).
  
  Model 97 serial number 948800 was manufactured very late in the year 1942 (if you disassemble the gun, you will find "42" stamped on the bottom of the barrel very near to where it enter the take down extenson ring.
