Remington Mohawk 600 6mm
Hey folks! Welcome to my virgin post, new to the forums (very new). I have been trying to do some research on a rifle i was given by my father for my first deer rifle. It's a Remington Mohawk 600 6mm the barrel numbers read UKW83 and the serial is 6534687. I havent been able to find out much about this rifle. My dad bought the rifle for me when i was 12 and passed away two weeks after that same deer season. So im left here with no answers pertaining to its origins, worth etc. Any help would be gratefully received. Thanks!

From the barrel markings (KW) I'm guessing the date on manufacture as 5/72. Is that close to the time you received it? Those are very nice rifles. 6mm is a more unusual chambering for a Mohawk. These were the rifles made by Rem. for the K-Mart type stores. I would not try to guess at the value--you could get an idea from checking the auction side. It is still a great deer gun and I wouldn't part with it if it were mine under your circumstances. 0 -
www.remingtonsociety.com the year of mfg. is a two digit letter code on the barrel opposite model# . early to mid 70's and collectible if original. hang onto it and don't mess with it 0 -
Thanks for some of the info, the gun is mostly stock, only thing its missing is the shooting rail that many of the models came with. When i got the gun it did not have it so im not sure if this particular one came with it stock or not. Other than that the rifle its self is all original, never re-blued, stock has never been redone. Dont get me wrong the gun is not in prestine condition as i have hunted with it and have also taken many deer in the past 13 years. It's a great rifle. I would love to know whats its worth. 0 -
If by "shooting rail" you mean the barrel rib that 600's had, the Mohawks did not have them.
And if you look on the auction side, you will see 5 Mowhawks listed with starting prices from 460 to 740. No 6mm's though--I would think they would bring a premium.0 -

There were two very similiar rifles made by Remington(actually 3 if you include the 660). There was first a 600, which came with a vent rib attatched. There was also a 600 Mohawk, which came with no vent rib on the barrel. All of these models are pretty well sought after and some calibers really bring a premium. Weather you are looking to sell it, keep it stored, or use it for hunting/shooting, it is a great little rifle IMO. I have a standard 600 in .243 Winchester and it is a handy rifle to carry through the woods.

Re: vent ribs on M. 600. I may be mistaken about this, but I only recall the vent rib on the 2 magnum models (6.5 & .350) 0 -
I think if you look back through the Remington history, you'll see that the original M600's had the rib. The later models did not. I have a .243 and a .308 with ribs.

I have been blessed with meeting and getting know dozens of extremely talented folks in the firearms industry. Some are truly superb gunmakers of all flavors while others are simply brilliant artists. I like to show some examples every now and then just remind us that sometimes there is more to this industry than Remington, Winchester, Savage, Ruger and the other primary manufacturers.
This is art on a classic double rifle. It doesn't get much better than this...
