Good credit card processor?
Just starting up my gunsmithing business more full time and I am trying to find a decent credit card processor, seems there are a lot of them out there just to rip you off. And then others wont even deal with guns.
Basically I am looking at software based, will do swipes at my shop but I think I will probably have a lot more call in stuff for gunbroker consignment sales etc. Plus from what I have read terminals are a pain so I would much rather just go software based and throw a card reader on my laptop for swipes.
Sofar the only place that sounds legit that I have found has been this http://www.merchantexpress.com/ there bbb acredited with an A rating and have some really good rates it seems.
Just wondering if theres anything else out there that may be better for me, if any of you guys have experiance with any of them and have had good luck let me know please. This is one of the last big hurdles I feel I need to leap before I really start getting somewhere.
I wonder what gunbroker uses as there processor?

Call your bank and see what they can do for you.
Otherwise, you *can* be certified by PayPal to use them for firearms, etc. THere is no objective list of requirements that I could find, but their site says its possible.0 -
USbank's credit underwriter will not allow credit card transactions for firearms. Have looked at paypal but there super expensive 3.2% +.25c a transaction not to mention its paypal no way in heck are they going to allow gun transactions. 0 -
I'd change banks. You need a bank to handle your credit card transactions. 0 -
Another solution is Quickbooks Merchant Services. If you need an accounting program anyway to track your business income & expenses, Quickbooks has a merchant service that dovetails right into their program. We have US Bank for our checking account, and the merchant service deposits directly into it. Our base rate is $9.95 per month, and our transaction fees are around .20 per transaction plus 1.65% of the total transaction for a swiped card, up to 2.2% or so for over-the-phone and for certain rewards or government cards.
However, be aware that your offer may differ from ours, and that we already had the Quickbooks software, which can run $200-400, depending on what you get. We had also looked at what Costco had to offer, but their monthly base rate was over $20 per month and Costco's equipment was a few hundred bucks instead of the $80 or so that we spent to get a simple USB card reader.
