Dangerous issues w/Grendel p30
I have not fired my grendel since last year. I have always had a tough time finding ammo for it so last time out at the range I tried a few brands. One was this new line of Remington Gold Dot. The round barely fit in the mag and when I shot it the muzzle flash was a huge fireball and it had a lot more recoil. It was not fun to shot. I was about to try a second mag when I noticed the slide was off the left rail. Well I got it home and it looks to me like the rail is bent out a little and the lip is bent up. You have to look really hard but it just is not right. Even though I can put the slide back on I do not dare fire it. Question is can it be fix? I have a father in-law with access to just about any metal fab piece of equipment ever made and he thought maybe it could be force back to shape. Fine but would it be safe?
OK so if it is junk and I have no FFL is there a way to use Gunbroker.com to find someone to sell the parts for me. I have 2 mags and even the muzzle brake. I think I even have a new extractor and maybe even a firing pin. I think I have some extra recoil springs as well.

You don't need a FFL to sell either functional firearms or parts on the GB Auction. As long as the firearms are shipped to a FFL. There are no requirements, that parts other then the serial numbered frame/receiver be shipped to a FFL holder, i.e. you can sell the parts to anyone.
Grendel firearms date to the 90's. The company that made them has been out of business for at least 15 years. Your call on whether you want to try to fix the P 30. Since they haven't been available for years, their value has gone up substantially in the resale market.0 -
Thanks for the info on FFL. I should have been more clear. I do not want to part it out but rather sell the whole lots as parts. The part about shipping to a FFL holder I did not know and that helps a lot. 0 -

I've induced that "problem" in a few of the P30s I've owned.
What happened is that when you last reassembled the slide to the frame; someone didn't keep downward pressure on the slide as it starts to enter the rails from the back, and the slide went on "wonky".
When it attempts to slide back from recoil; it pops off one or both frame rails, and sprays the shooter with gas, brass, and a loud pop.
My simple fix was to set the frame in a vise, loosen & then retighten the allen head bolts back into place. I then took very special care to push down on the slide when reassembling it.
30,000 rounds later; no problems. I shoot an IPSC-type match every month with that gun.0 -
Well I have done that before but this time it was different. I believe that I damage the rail and that caused the slide to come off on one side. I do not care to test it out to see if it is Ok as I really do not need a slide upside my head:) Is the slide rail replaceable? 0 -
Well, if your Dad has a vise and possibly a straight, true, square block of steel; you can remove the rail and "mandrel" it against the block of steel to where it copies the other side. Just be careful not to thin it up too much whilst "mandrelling" and you should be good.
A simple test fixture can be made from a car rim and some baling wire, or if you prefer; a small vise and some vise grips. Don't forget to put the string around the trigger so you can be a safe distance away when it goes off. Try your "new" rail out with some PMC or CCI wimpy ammo first, then if everything looks good; try those 40gr. Winchesters.0
