best starter skeet gun

looking for a over under in the $700-$800 range to shoot a little skeet with.what gun do you reccomend? thanks

    Stoeger, Fausti (I have one - great gun), and Mossberg all offer decent guns for under your price range new. Be sure to save some $ for range fees and shells :) You may be able to find a used red label, etc. in your price range as well.

    go with a used red label or Citori stay away from the mossberg or any of the low quality imports

    which is the better gun? the ruger or the browning. if you could find 2 used guns in exact same cond ,which would you buy ? the red label or the citori?

    I own both, The ruger has over 20000 rounds on it, the browning much less probably 2000 but has been less reliable as it has broken both firing pins and both ejectors, cost a ton to have fixed, The ruger has never broken. Additionally I dropped my ruger and broke the opening lever. They fixed it for FREE. The ruger is a little heavier has better wood but is not as lively, I'd say you should at least swing both and see how they fit and feel. If a true browning Skeeet it will have a raised rib. I have the browning caused its a grade 6. Plain Jane I'd buy the ruger

    You may wish to consider a good used gun vs. a cheap new gun.

    Beretta, SKB (prob the best value), Browning, older Weatherby. I would get the screw in chokes unless ONLY used for skeet. A lot of Winchester 101's available if Skeet only.

    Do not get a gun where the safety "sets" each time you open, make sure it has chrome lined barrels, rib, double bead if you can find it.

    The main concern is balance and fit. LOP, rib to eye line up, etc.
    There are many inexpensive methods to make the gun fit you, but it's nice to start with the closest.

    geeguy makes a good point. For what it is worth the Red Label can be easily adjusted if you want to not have the safety reset. I just got used to mine.

    Plus 1 on a good used gun vs. an inexpensive new gun. Ruger and Browning (Miroku/Japanese) O/U would be my suggestion to start for a good used O/U.
