stevens favorite 1915 model lever problem

i just put together a stevens favorite i bought as a project gun. now when i pull the hammer back the lever falls. am i missing a spring that keeps tension on the lever? does anyone have any schematic drawings or parts lists for this? thanks.

    Is the barrel, breech block and receiver all from the same rifle? You may have a headspace problem if the block doesn't lock up tight against a loaded chamber.

    It's been several years since I fiished my Stevens 1915 Favorite project. As I recall had similiar problem. The problem on mine was worn to oversize holes on internal parts that the action screws run thru. The fix was to hand make and fit new screws out of slightly larger OD screws to tighten up action.
    Now this was kitchen table/home/novice gunsmithing. Can't swear it was what a real smith might do. But has worked so far.

    It's been years since I messed with them, but seems like one thing that would cause lever to droop was a sloppy fit of breech block to barrel?

    the barrel and breech block and receiver were all original to this gun, the only thing i needed to add was a firing pin and a trigger screw. then color case harden and re-blue. and through the schematic that "HRF" sent me i have all the correct parts.

    I don't know anything about the Favorite, but I have a book.

    Frank DeHaas said: "With hammer at full cock, a well worn Favorite action will drop open, but, if the rifle were being fired, the shooter's hand would be holding the lever up, thus there is no actual need for some special method to keep the action tight."

    If you have some shim stock or a feeler gauge... Use either between the barrel face and the breech block to determine how much wear has occurred over the years. When you have the correct thickness between the block and barrel the breech block lever will snap up and stay. I have set the barrel back a few thousandths to correct the problem you describe. The tip from Fatstrat about replacing the screws with larger screws will also work. But check with the gauge first to see if you only have a small amount of wear.
