age of my wife's Marlin
My father gave my wife a Marlin lever-action .22 for one Christmas. I want to find out how old it is, and would love any insight or any [free] resources to help me pinpoint it as close as I can.
It's a model 39-A (not 39A). The serial number (from what I can tell) is either "F6070" or "E6070". I can't tell which because the lower part of it is slightly worn. It's a round tapered barrel (not the octagonal barrel), with no checkering in the woodwork, and the tube holds 18 LR rounds.
The wood is all in great condition (in my unexperienced opinion), and it still shoots perfectly fine. In fact, my dad mounted a cheap little scope on it, and we've done some plinking with it (it's dead-on).
I only want to find out the date of manufacture (or a small range of dates). I'm not interested in selling it because it's my wife's and I don't think SHE'S interested in selling it (she likes shooting it).

Your wife's Marlin was made in either 1948 or 49, depending on the letter. I have two of these, and learned to shoot wife the one my Mom bought my Dad for an anniversary present. They are sweet shooting little rifles, and extremely well made. congrats to your wife. 0 -
