Remington .22
I'm looking to buy a good .22 and as of now I'm leaning toward either the Remington 552 BDL or the 572 BDL. Can anyone tell me some pros and cons of these,or your personal choice. Thanks

My brother once had a remington .22 pump, I believe a model 121, Fieldmaster, something similar, that was unusual in coloring. The wood was a light finish, "blonde" is the only discription I can give, the metal was finished in something that looked like copper, although it probably wasn't. It was purchased in the late 1950's. He loved it as no other gun, and I'd like to find one for his birthday, but have no idea where to start. Can anyone identify it somehow for me so I know what to search for? I know it's a long shot, but have nothing to lose by trying.

As it was made from 1939-1963, I don't think it had a serial number which were not required until 1968. 0 -
Prior to 1968, there was no legal requirement to serialize longguns. Because of this many Remington rimfire rifles do not have serial numbers. If you can give us the code letters on the left side of the barrel just forward of the receiver we might be able to pin down the DOM. 0 -
The gun control act of 1968 required that serial numbers be placed on all firearms made after the effective date. Your 510 was made prior to 1968 and had no serial number. It was common practice to leave serial numbers off inexpensive .22's before that time. Your rifle was not expensive but it was well made and should be an excellent shooter. 0 -
