    Nice old Ithaca. Lewis or possibly Crass model. There looks like some significant pitting on the chamber end of the barrels in spots and you didn't state the condition of the bores. It looks like very nice wood and the level of engraving indicates it was a higher grade shotgun but I don't know what grade it would be considered. The style of engraving is similar to the engraving on a turn of the century LeFever I used to own.

    I suspect the condition of the barrels may restrict this old gun to a mantle decoration based on the picture and the information provided. My value WAG (worth $.02 or less) would be in the $350 to $500.00 range.

    Edit: Words are everthing but I did mean condition of the barrels, i.e. bore condition, chamber length, dings, buldges, lock up, barrel joining, etc. All of these issues would require a hands on inspection by someone competent to work on these old masterpieces. I suspect the pitting near the chambers is a result of the corrosive nature of black powder. In my experience this sort of wear would require a detail inspection by a qualified experienced gunsmith. If everything checks out, you may have a $750 plus shotgun. It is definity a classic. Good luck

    I'm think you mean the bores are not so hot but you would be wrong, the bore are pretty nice, shiny front to back and no pitting. A few scuffs in the chamber area and but assume thats from the shell casings and considerate it normal wear.

    Thanks for the info. I have an offer of $300 and needed an "Experts" opinion based on the photos.

    The serial number on the gun will tell us when it was made and most likely which specific Model it is. The number stamped on the watertable will tell which grade gun it is (my guess is a "4")

    The condition of the bores is of no importance on this gun unless you intend to try shooting it. The damascus construction barrels dictate that you use black powder or a smokeless (low-pressure) equivalent. Additionally, that gun will have shorter than standard chambers (e.g. if it is a 12 ga. the chamber length is most likely 2-5/8").

    $300 would be a decent buy on that gun.

    it's no field grade shotgun and if it locks up tight and the barrels and action check out ok it's worth more than double your offer

    Appears to be a 4 grade Crass (serial # below 50000) or Lewis (serial # above 55000)as prev stated. American flag damascus bbl pattern. Everything I know is per Snyder's book. I think the $500+ is fair and $300 seems low.

    It deffinently appears to be a grade 4 Crass or Lewis hard to tell without serial number. The damascus barrels are nitch market of buyers. They have to have low pressure hand loads. The gun appears to have a good bit corrosion on the dolls heads and barrel areas. But this is a grade 4 gun with nice wood and terrific engraving. If it were mine I would not let it go for less than 800.00. It would also depend alot on numbers matching. Check out doublegunshop.com there are plenty of gentlemen on there with more expertise on these older Ithaca's I stick with the NID's mainly.
