Dating an AR-15 mag ?

Hello all,
This is my first posting here , hoping the experts here can help me ID the mag I have is manufactured pre-94 .
I am in NY and the federal ban of 94 is still in effect here.
Recently bought my first AR, Got her from a well respected local shop.
Also bought a "new" old stock pre-94 mag there, there are no dates or markings on it, other than a stamped "6" or "9" on the bottom of the frontside.[?]
Came in wrapper marked taiwan AR-15 with a barcode and some numbers and letters.
Is there a way to prove the manufacture is pre-94, and therefore NY compliant?

    Yes, save your receipt from the gun shop. He is a NY licensed dealer, & would not have sold you anything illegal.

    Welcome to the forums.

    "IF" it ever became an issue, the burden of proof would be on the authorities to prove the mag is illegal, not upon you to prove its legal.

    Given the info you provided, I suspect the DOB cannot be determined.

    I have heard some post ban magazines have a date code on the inside. I never had any to take apart to check. That is why I do not like to sell high capacity mags in my shop in NY.

    Any Colt magazines with the floorplate marked ".223" instead of "5.56" would be "Pre-Ban," since that change was made in the late 1960s or early 1970s as I recall.

    About 1970-71 the floor plate was change to read 5.56.
