1907 mod 1890 winchester

good day,
I have a mod. 1890 , 22 short, winchester made in 1907 , it has a 50% cond. nickeled receiver. it appears all original. there are no proof marks on either the receiver or barrel.
1. is this a gallery model due to the nickeled receiver?
2. what is the proper procedure for removal of the outside magazine tube? I need to replace the wood pump grip.
3. can the inner magazine spring tube be taken apart to replace the spring? if so, how?

    To answer your questions,

    1) The nickelled receiver, in itself, does not make this a "gallery" rifle. True gallery heritage is normally evidenced by heavy wear, abuse, 22 Short chambering, enlarged (v shaped) cartridge loading slot in magazine tube, dirty wood, replacement barrel (commonly), odd markings or numbering of the rifle (done by gallery operator, usually crudely). Your buttplate, triggerguard, and bolt should be nickelled, also. Most ? nickel 22 Shorts were, in my opinion, gallery rifles.

    2) Outer magazine tube is removed by drifting out pin located in magazine tube mounting ring immediately in front of pump handle. After pin is removed, pull tube forward.

    3) Inner magazine tube is disassembled by drifting out pin located in knurled magazine cap. This is the same pin that locks the inner tube into the outer tube when loading / unloading.

    GREG, thanks for the info , the repairs will now be a breeze,
    the trigger guard is nickeled also , the butt plate may have been not sure, but it is very smooth with nice patina .. the outer tubes loading port is slightly enlarged and squared off to make it rectangular. but there are no other added markings. thanks again, Bob

    cylinder and slide can strip it and blue it for you.
    they do nice work, but theyre not cheap.
