    The rifle in the auction you pointed to is a Model 1885 low-wall that was manufactured in June of 1890. It is in relatively poor condition, and is worth about $450.

    It would however be a very economical way for a guy to get shooter to determine if he wanted to put a lot more in to a finer example.

    If you don't mind having an antique gun that looks like an antique instead of a "closet queen" it looks to me as if with a bit of work that gun could be made into a very respectable looking item. It's a bargain at the price currently bid.

    Yes, it will safely shoot any 22 Short ammo that you can buy at your local sporting goods shop.
