Left Hand 6.5x55

Anyone know where I could find a nice, good shooting, LEFT HAND, 6.5x55? Looking for something light, easy to handle in the woods, and accurate.

    I suggest selecting 'Home' in the upper right corner of these pages and use the 'bolt action' category. Type in 'left hand' in the search box and you can add the particular manufacturer if that helps. Start by looking at Tikka, Sako and CZ since they make a 6.5x55. Light and easy to handle will be up to you.

    If bolt actions doesn't yield anything you like, try lever actions or even pump or semi-auto to see what's being listed.

    Tikka chambers most of their models in the 6.5x55 AND in left hand. Use this link to their website then select 'Datatable'. Left hand is the far right column:

    The trick will be to find a distributor that handles these here in the States. Calling the major distributors will answer that although your local shops should do that for you...

    Check out item 130631392 on GunBroker. It is a Steyr Mannlicher lefthand in the Swedish Mauser.

    I am lefthanded also, and am not immediately aware of mainstream manufacturers that make a lefthand model in the Swedish Mauser, other than perhaps Cooper Firearms, and that would be a single shot, if they make one at all.

    However, you may find an occasional custom model in this fine cartridge.

    You may have a hard time with this. Modern rifle makers who make left hand light weight rifles, like Ruger and Remington, have made them mostly for modern cartridges like the 260rem and the like. You may want to haunt the auction side of the fourm to try to find a used custom rifle but I expect that it may be a long search for a 6.5swede. The 260rem is everything the swede was and it maybe easier for you to decide to choose on the available left hand light weight rifles and their cartriges then on what you want. Or of course have a custom built for you.....

    Aside from finding something already made, I would say buying a left hand Savage 114 Classic in 270 or 30.06 and replacing the factory issue with a 6.5 Mauser barrel is the best way to go. Savage barrels are pretty easy to replace and I would think given the cartridge similarities that's all you'd need to do.

    Of course, if he went for a TC single shot, he could get a 6.5x55 in a right handed bolt and use it as a single shot.

    I note that the Sako L691 was offered in lefthand in the 6.5 X 55 SE. This is an older model Sako, and sometimes many of the models were not available in the US.

    You can get some information on Sako.fi under "Old Models".

    You may wish to also consider buying a rifle that appeals to you, but in a different caliber, and rebarreling it to your favored 6.5 X 55.

    Beretta USA appears to import several of the Tikka T3 models in 6.5 X 55 in righthand models, but not in lefthand models. However, as Nononsense pointed out above, Tikka does offer lefthand models in the 6.5 X 55. The trick will be finding one because Beretta does not seem to import them into the US.
