Marlin 1893 manufacture (shipping) date?
I am mulling over purchasing a Marlin 1893 30-30. I have found a few resources for serial numbers but this one does not seem to be getting any results. The serial number is 423409. It has an octagon shaped barrel, which is marked "Special Smokeless Steel". If there is anyone out there that could help me out on this I would appreciate it!

It was built somewhere between 1906 and 1942. Your best bet would be the Cody Firearms Museum www.bbhc.org or call 307-587-4771.
