Greetings,

This inquiry is in regards to ammunition purchase on GunBroker.com.

It seems all auctions for bulk ammunition require for the potential buyer to email or fax a copy of their driver's license. Though I understand the concern for having legitimate legal buyers, it is also a fair statement to say it is a major security issue for one's ID to be sent to someone you do not know.

Just wanted to know if sending ID is a required pre-requisite for everyone selling ammunition? Too much identity theft out there to not be safe.

    Folks selling ammo, want to make sure as much as they possibly can, that they are not selling to an underaged person. If they did, this would potentially cause them severe legal problems.

    +1 severe legal problems can easily = $50k to $70k out of pocket to fight.

    I understand people needing to legally protect themselves.

    If there are any sellers reading this, I have a question for you. If the license is sent to you can the picture, physical description, and license number be blacked out? That way you can still see the name, address (which is the same on GunBroker) and DOB without having other information freely floating around.

    A DL doesn't give any information that pertains to stealing identity. People who steal ID are looking for bank account info, and SS card numbers. Your name, address, height and weight won't do much for them. They can get most of that info out of the phone book, and I've never applied for credit and been asked for my height, weight, eye and hair color.

    I guess my only real concern was the driver's license number.

    Many state issued DL's Do have your SS number on them. But I feel if you are afraid of mailing a copy to some one that is taking a bigger
    chance selling you ammo, then you should not buy from the internet at all. I never ask or want a buyer to email me any info...I want it sent with the payment. bob

    A lot have sent me copies of thier drivers license. Some black out or cut out the license number. All I need is a valid date of birth. Names, addresses and dates of birth are not enough for anyone to do anything with. Almost all of that can be found anyway with a little searching. As stated before, the seller is simply trying to determine to the best of their ability that the purchaser is of age.

    i have bought many cases on the internet, i just state i am over 21, and can legally purchase. never had a problem. would not send private info to an individual.
