My father has given me this rifle which was given to him by his father. It has 30 W.C.F. stamped on the barrel. The serial number is 131481. It has a "Marble" flip up peep sight and ramp sight. On the peep sight is stamped Pat. Oct 20'03 and nov 14'05. The gun is in perfect shape. No dings or dents in the stock or forearm and there is no rust or pit marks on the metal. I would like to know the year this rifle was made and an estimated value for insurance purposes. Thank you for any assistance. 0 -

You will need to post some close up and clear pictures of this rifle. It is like saying that I have a 1957 Chevy...how much is it worth...without seeing it.
As for the date of manufacture, the Blue Book has some serious error in it. Therre is a Sticky at the top of the expert forum that will give precise data, and there is a Gentleman on the board who is a Moderator, and goes by the name of Bert H. He is in the top two of the WORLD's best Winchester experts. He will be going to Cody for his annual 2 weeks of research this week. Give him a jingle via e-mail, and he can drastically narrow things down.

Model 1894 serial number 91526 was manufactured mid-year 1900. It most likely was assembled into a complete SRC in the latter part of the year. If you are interested, you can purchase a factory letter for it from the Cody Firearms Museum. The factory letter will give the exact date that it was received in the warehouse from the assembly room, the precise original configuration, and the date that it shipped (sold).
As for shooting it, as long as it is in safe mechanical operating condition, and the bore is not fouled or damaged, it will safely handle any modern manufactured 30-30 ammo.
As for the potential value question, I really need to see a series of clear, well illuminated, close-up pictures of it.0 -

tried it...does not tighten up. i ran threw a set of dummie rounds to make sure it cycles good and it seems to. ran a snake through it and it came out surprisingly clean. quick check of the barrel with a white cloth and flashlight showed no damage. im going to oil 'er up tonight and squeeze a couple rounds threw 'er tomorrow. i appriciate all the responses..and i will attempt to post pictures tonight after i get off work.0 -
Any gun that old needs to be throughly checked out by a knowledgeable gunsmith before fired with modern ammunition. A very large percentage of those old Winchester 1894s and 94s have developed excessive headspace especially those in 30wcf or 30-30 caliber. 0
