Arisaka "tag"??
First, thanks for the help on the Arisaka thread sizes.
Next, question. I recently purchased a Type 99. It is very early series. It came with a Swedish type leather sling, and attached to the foward sling swivel, under the sling, there is a small cloth tag attached. It is about 3/8" wide and 1" long. It looks like there is a very faded Japanese letter, but I can't be sure.
Does anyone know what the purpose of this tag was.

It would be best, if you could post quality photos of the Tag and how it's attached to the rifle. Perhaps one of our members would be able to identify it. 0 -
Although I've never seen one on a rifle, a cloth tag with Kanji on it attached to a sword is a tag the owner added at surrender telling his name and rank. It may be a prayer for a good aim too.
Kanji doesn't really have "letters" as you know them, each symbol means a particular word (or group of words).0
