22 Mossberg Model 44US(b) value

Can anyone help me with the value of a 22 Mossberg Model 44US(b)please? My local gun shop dealer said this was made for the U.S. Army. It has a heavy barrel target model. He said it was manufactured between l944 and l949, and it was used to train snipers.
Another gun shop told me the same story, but said gun was made around l931 and also said it was used for training snipers for the U.S. Army. It is at least 60-70% original and shoots perfect. I am looking for the value for my own personal information, not for selling this gun.

    WRONG WRONG WRONG!!! The 44 US was a US trainer. The 44 US a,b,c,d were commercial variations produced AFTER WW II. They are USUALLY somewhat nicer finished and sighted; they are supremely accurate, but do not command as much as the GI ones. The GI ones also were marked US Property and had SERIAL NUMBERS usually on both receiver and bbl. Fair value for excellent condition commercial (must include sight, swivels, mag) about $175-$225

    Keep in mind that there is a Mossberg 44B, which is a pre WWII rifle (probably where the second shop owner got the idea of 1931--which is way too early) and also a Model 44US(b) which king999 already provided information on. The 44B is a heavy target model with a number of target features and really looks nothing at all like any of the other rifles in the 44 series. I think you need to start visiting some different guns shops because those boys don't seem to know much about Mossbergs!

    How much is he asking? Everyone usually wants to knock around the mossberg name, but know little about the .22 rifles they produced. I would say 150-250 would be a good price for one, as they are great shooters.

    Morty is right. The 44 US was manufactured from Feb 1943 until Aug 1944.The (a) from Feb 1944 - 46. Some military issue weapons did have the (a) designation because they used parts from the civilian line to fulfill their orders. The (b) was produced from 1946 - 47, the (c) from 1947 - 48 and the (d) in 1948. If there is no serial number it is not a military issue. The serial number range on the 44US is from 100,000 to 165,648. I would think that the price on the gun would be between 150 to 250 if in good shape. They are great shooters, Enjoy it. Steve

    actually the CMP is now listing the 44US as sold out on their home page..the north store has a few complete 44's on the rack

    IF complete- sights, mag, sling swivels- $200-250 is a fair price. They are VERY good target rifles, and good scope mounts aer avaialble from havlinsales.com. Some info on the various Mossberg 22s for ya: http://home.epix.net/~damguy/models.htm

    I have a question. I just purchased a 44us(a); but it is narked us property and has a serial number.
    Is this common. I am trying to find some history on this gun including the date it was made. Any help you can give would be appreciated. Thank you
