NIB Marlin M45 - Shoot it or safe it?

"Camp Carbine" .45. Bought it as a shooter but it's unfired. I'm thinking aftermarket stock, recoil spring and buffer, save the original parts and shoot it with kid gloves. What would an expert do?

The word "unfired" was not in the description but the gun is ANIB. I want to shoot it but save as much value as possible. I really planned to shoot it and get good with it. Now that I see it, I almost want to put it away for the future.

Still undecided.

You're right and in the past I always figured it's my gun, I'll do what I want with it. Then again prices and availability were different then.

Question 2: 16.5# spring or 21#?

    I've got a 9 and a 45 - both purchased used. Both are "fun" guns to shoot and when ammo was more available - spent a lot of time at the range. I've seen 45s selling in excess of 600 bucks - I occasionally check the auctions here at GB and have seen some offered in the 700 to 800 range. I'm thinking: if you take care of it, shoot it, enjoy it - it will grow in value - unless you paid (originally) way too much. All that being said - I've never seen a NIB piece offered - so, the rarity of that condition may mean more than just having fun with it????
    On a side note: either model makes/ would make a fine home defense piece - with the right ammo.

    Well, tomorrow you could step up into the street and get run down by a truck , then what good would it have done you?
    You bought it to shoot , you want to shoot it. Seems really cut and dried to me.
    Or put it away and never use it, then after that truck runs you over and that gun ends up in a hock shop someplace and some doper ends up with it , don't come complaining about how he hacked 1/2 the barrel down and carved his name in the stock

    Easy question with an easy answer. Shoot it and shoot it often. That is my expert opinion.

    take a picture of it, frame the picture and hang it on your wall.

    Then shoot the gun.

    Look at pictures. Shoot guns.

    If it is NIB with all papers, and you want top dollar some day, safe it. If not shoot it, don't try the halfway kid gloves and other parts. It will still be less than NIB if handled and fired unless you replace stock, action and barrel. Oh, wait that means another rifle. Anyway it is either a collector peice in the safe, or a shooter that might evaluate, but it cannot be both.

    Tough call. I bought several M88 Winchesters and shot all but one which i have kept NIB. It has become about twice as valuable as the other ones. Your call, what you want out of it.

    shoot the gun, you cant hurt it or lower the value. its not a collector piece! just get some high cap mags if available before obama passes the clinton ban again.
