Question about a Belgium 44-40 pistol

This is a flea mkt find, cant find maker. Has some markings I assume are military. Very tight gun, I would not be afraid to shoot it if I could find right ammo. Hope pics are ok, Had to take them with phone.

    Without quality close up photos,of all markings and grips very difficult to help you.

    Im sorry about pics, digital camera took a dump on me! Had to use phone, and it doesnt take good pics.

    Hello be aware that this pistol, is a top break action . This type of pistol is IMHO NOT as strong as a solid top strap pistol like a SINGLE action Colt . With that said ammo is NOT a problem go to midway or cabela's and buy some COWBOY loads.

    About ten years ago or so I was doing some chronographing of 44-40 black powder loads in several different barrel lengths . An MH Pocket Army, a 4 3/4 SAA and a Belgian copy of the S&W 44-40 S&W Double action Frontier.
    It was identical to yours in unfired or mint condition.
    The load was 40 grains of 3Fg and a 200 grain original style bullet.
    Within six shots or so the gun loosened up in the locking latch.
    I would only fire yours with pipsqeek loads like cowboy action light loads if at all.

    Thanks for your concern! I wasnt planning on shooting the peice. Just stated it was tight enough that I wouldnt be afraid to.

    Nobody mentions value. I just bought one off an auction very similar in vg/e blue .45 cal for $225. There are many of this type pistol out there usually at 'wish' prices of $250 up, most of saturday nite quality. The one I got was something of a sleeper in price and quality quite good. When I was a kid in the 1930s J.L. Galef of Phila offered them for $4.50 new. At the time a new H&R 922 was about $7.
