Remington 870 Jamming
We have 4 Remington 870's here in the house and three of them jam when trying to eject a spent shell. The guns are cleaned and stored properly but the problem happens constantly with all 3. Anyone got any thoughts? We are avid trap shooters and it really spoils the fun.

Need more info. When and where does the gun jam?? Does the new shell come out of the mag tube to early?? 0 -
870 does don't jam/// Either the ejector spring is broke or your ammo is Euro and not compatable with the 870.nambu 0 -
Three, 870's,not ejecting ?? I'd like to hear more about the ammo being used. Factory, reloads, high brass, low brass ?? 0 -
If you don't work the slide action vigorously, the shells might not cycle properly.

Are you using cheap promo ammo? Some cheaper shells that have the silver metal base will expand after firing and not cycle. 0 -
You have either a problem with cheap ammo, or the three 870's you have jamming are 2 3/4 inch recievers, and you are shooting 3 inch shells in them. Not all 870's were magnum recievers.

youallready got the best advise in the world, receiver has to be marked MAGNUM to shoot anything but 2 3/4 inch shells regardless of bbl markings a good 870 should shoot any dang shell made the fact that you are having trouble with 3 of them is dang near unheard of. are they expresses or wingmasters? wingmasters in working condition do not jamup... by the way are you using reloads? if so try a box of store baught 7 1/2 shot game loads and see if that resolves the issue.Good luck and by the way DON'T ever get rid of the one that will eat everything, as if I had to tell you that.DOHHH.sometimes I get carried away when I talk about 870's. Believe it or not, Remington had a bad batch of barrels get through their quality control, earlier this decade (around 2002-2003). Their chambers were out of spec and there was not enough room for the nomimal shotshell expansion that occurs after firing. I had customers having this happen using 2 3/4 inch shells. Some shells even had the brass base. The shells were stuck so firmly in barrel chamber, that the extractor would rip right through the metal lip during the extraction process, leaving the shell behind. I couldn't believe it myself. I had to send back 2 brand new barrels off brand new 12ga Express shotguns (to Remington), and they said they just 're-polished the chambers', but I think it was more than just a rough chamber. Also, the cheap shells with the silver colored metal base (Kudos to BHAVIN - He was dead on with his comment) have been known and documented to do this, based on my customers first hand experience. 0 -

hey I just wanted to chime in here...
I bought an 870 super mag and had the thing happen to me... it jammed up on my first shot! I was really bummed and this continued to happen numerous times and on each additional visit to the clay field. After reading some internet stuff about cleaning it etc I discovered that maybe I wasn't "shucking" it as hard as I should be. Last week when I took her out I shucked (loaded/chambered/closed whatever you want to call it) VERY HARD and I never had a single jam. I am convinced that the gun jamming wasn't the gun's fault at all but all my problem. Shuck that thing like you mean it and as I read on one post... shuck it like you're gonna break it and you'll likely avoid the jams. I hope this helps you, it certainly gave me a big relief.
