I've got a buddy that wants to know when his 64 Winchester was built, anyone have suggestions on were to look? Ser # 1096087

    looks like 1935 in madis, but wait for bert to be sure as madis is not quit right. eastbank.

    March of the year 1935 (I just finished updating my copy of the Polishing Room Serialization records). I now have the last serial number made in each month of each year for 1932 - 1945, and I will work my way back to at least 1910 (hopefully) during this research trip.

    Out of curiosity, what caliber is it, and is it a Sporting Rifle, Deer Rifle, or a Carbine?

    Thanks all for the help, the Arms Collectors page is a big help.
    The only other info I have beyond the ser#, is the gun is a 25-35. Thanks again. Moretoys.

    Caveat: I would still check with Bert on all models, as sometimes the page is off by a year or two.

    What is the barrel length, and are the stocks plain or checkered?

    As a side note to this conversation, I was able to procure the month ending Polishing Room Serialization Record Book (PRSRB) data for the Model 1894/94 from 1906 through 1945. I have the last serial number made for each month from January 1906 through December 1945. I also have all of the Model 55 PRSRB data.

    Bare in mind I haven't seen this gun, but I was told it was a 20" barrel, w/ pistol grip (not checkered).
    What are the differences between grades?
    Checkered stock = sporting rifle ?
    non-checkered pistol grip = deer rifle ?
    short barrel = carbine ?

    24-inch barrel non checkered stocks = Sporting Rifle
    24-inch barrel checkered stocks, capped pistol grip = Deer Rifle
    20-inch barrel non checkered stocks = Sporting Carbine
    20-inch barrel checkered stocks, capped pistol grip = Deluxe Carbine

    All 219 Zippers were made with a 26-inch barrel.

    Based on your description, your friend has a Sporting Carbine, and one in the rarest caliber... potentially worth several thousand $$$$[^]
