6.5 Jap with cast bullets anyone?
Has anyone tried cast bullets in the 6.5 Jap. Would like to try the RCBS 140gr FP in a sporterised Model 38 Carbine.

I've tried it. No different than trying cast in anything else- use a good copper solvent on the bore first, seat the bullet to just off the lands (if possible to feed through the mag) make sure the gas check isn't below the case neck, use a good lube, size your bullet 1/1000 over bore diameter, and keep velocity under 2000 fps.
I haven't tried that mold, but seem to recall doing ok with 8 gr of Unique as a plinker load or 25 gr of 4895 for a bit more oomph. Neither was great but then again... neither is my gun [:D]

Thanks I will go to the site and look around. My plan was to keep the loads around 1800 to 1900 FPS. I was just wondering about the Arisaka type rifleing? 0 -
The metford style rifling used in the Jap is a bit problematic, but a good hard alloy or oven-treated alloy should be fine. 0 -
I was planing on using straight WW air cooled. If this does not work will try water dropped. thanks again. 0
