Ammo/Rifle caliber ID

Buddy says he saw an older Model 70 rifle with the stamping 30 GOV TOS, or possibly TO5 stamped on the side.

I have never heard of such a thing but if I had to guess I would say .30-06 since it is "gov" .30cal.

Any ideas what it might be? Tried a web search but came up short.

    I looked at my pre 1964 Model 70's chambered in .30-06
    and the barrels are stamped-.30 GOVT 06.
    Perhaps your friend is confused.

    Model 70's date at the earliest to the mid 30's. The Krag cartridge had been superseded by the 30-06 at that time by over 30 years, as the standard military cartridge.

    30-40 Krag = 30 ARMY = 30 USA
    30-06 = 30-06 Springfield = 30 GOVT 1906

    Than there is/was the 30-01 and 30-03 (Yes, you can use 30-06 ammo in a 30-03 chamber)

    I am about 99% sure this is the case but I have not heard back from him yet.
