7.65 argentine mauser
found one at a yard sale, matching numbers on stock and reciever. looks like a very good bluing job has been done. stock has been refinished to a gloss coat. bore is good. overall it looks to be in very good shape. guy is asking $200. not looking at it as a collector, but just a shooter. ammo availablity? a possible medium range deer hunting rifle? any comments?

Either one is worth the $200 if it's in good condition. The 7.65 round is between a .300 Savage and .308 Win in ballistics. Milsurp ammo runs between $0.27 and $0.40 a round. Commercial hunting ammo ranges from $12 a box of 20 for Privi Partisan to $40 for a box of Norma.0 -
the gun appears to be a somewhat sporterised 1891 model, not the '09 carbine version. that would explain the very good bluing job. barrel length has been shortened and front sight repositioned. my biggest concern would be ammo availability i guess, as i don't reload. 0 -
